Music Performance

This years Smithsonian theme is “Music” and special guest, “Papa Steve” Pattea will be performing at 9:30am and at 11:00 a.m. in the Museum’s Pattea gallery. Steven Pattea, son of the late former Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation President, Dr. Clinton Pattea, will share family friendly songs familiar to many, but with a decidedly “Yavapai” flair. Steve has promised some lessons in the Yavapai language and guarantees a rousing great time.

Steven shares his love for music at community events, valley area venues and with the ‘Hman ‘shawa Early Childhood Development Center on the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation reservation. His pre-school age program teaches self expression through storytelling of the Yavapai culture and language.

Museum visitors will also be invited to view the opening of “Destination Moon: The Apollo 11 Mission” poster exhibit from the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES). The poster exhibition will be displayed through October 15th and celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission and explores the birth and development of the American space program and the space race.

The River of Time is thrilled to present this temporary exhibit as part of its ongoing mission to highlight the many stories of relevance to the natural and social sciences of the Lower Verde River Valley. The exhibit is the first in the series of experiences highlighting the theme for the renovation and expansion of the Museum, “Where Water Meets the Desert Sky”.

Destination Moon: The Apollo 11 Mission Poster Exhibition is based on a traveling exhibition of the same name, developed by the National Air and Space Museum and the Smithsonian Institution traveling Exhibition Service. The exhibition is made possible by the support of Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos, Joe Clark, Bruce R. McCaw Family Foundation, the Charles and Lisa Simonyi Fund for Arts and Sciences, John and Susann Norton, and Gregory D. and Jennifer Walston Johnson.

SITES has been sharing the wealth of Smithsonian collections and research programs with millions of people outside Washington, D.C., for more than 65 years. SITES connects Americans to their shared cultural heritage through a wide range of exhibitions about art, science and history, which are shown wherever people live, work and play.

The River of Time Museum is a great place to cool down anytime during summer hours Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9am to Noon and by appointment. If you have visitors coming to town, or would like to visit on another day of the week, just call 480.837.2612 to set up a special tour.
